Configure long service leave by state
Long service leave (LSL) entitlements differ by state. The LSL state config page lets you set the accrual rule for each state your employees work in, so the platform calculates each person’s balance against the right legislation.
Open LSL state config
- Sidebar then Leave.
- Leave settings then LSL state config.
You see a list of Australian states and territories. For each one, you can set:
- Years of service before LSL accrues
- Number of weeks of LSL after that period
- Pro rata access (how many years before someone can cash out a partial entitlement on resignation)
- Max accrual cap
- Whether the entitlement is portable (relevant in some industries)
Default values
The platform ships with the standard rule for each state. Don’t change these unless your award or enterprise agreement specifies something different.
| State | Years | Weeks | Pro rata |
|---|---|---|---|
| NSW | 10 | 8.67 | After 5 years |
| VIC | 7 | 8.67 | After 7 years |

| WA | 10 | 8.67 | After 7 years |
| SA | 10 | 13 | After 7 years |
| TAS | 10 | 8.67 | After 7 years |
| ACT | 7 | 6.0667 | After 5 years |

(These match Fair Work guidance at the time of writing. Always check the latest legislation in your state before relying on them.)
How the platform uses it
Each employee record has a Primary work state. The platform applies that state’s rule to their LSL balance. If someone moves states, update the field on their profile and the new rule applies prospectively.
For complicated cases (e.g. someone who has worked across multiple states), you can override LSL on the employee profile under the leave tab.
Annual review
LSL legislation changes occasionally. The platform doesn’t auto update the rules. Add a note in your annual compliance review to check this page once a year.
