Configure leave settings

The leave settings page covers org wide leave rules that apply across every policy group. Changes here affect everyone unless their policy group overrides the setting.

Open leave settings

  1. Sidebar then Leave.
  2. Leave settings then Settings.

What you can configure

Leave year

  • Calendar year (1 Jan to 31 Dec) or Fiscal year (1 Jul to 30 Jun) or Anniversary (each person’s leave year runs from their start date).
  • The leave year affects how end of year carry over works and how the reports show “year to date” balances.

Two stage approvals

Toggle whether leave requests need both manager AND HR approval or just manager. Off by default. Turn on for sensitive leave types like parental, study, or long service. See Two stage leave approvals for the full picture.

Notice periods

Minimum notice days for each leave type (e.g. 14 days for annual, 2 hours for personal). Submitted requests with less notice get a flag on them so the manager can decide whether to approve anyway.

Blackout dates

Org wide blocks where annual leave can’t be requested (e.g. peak season, public holiday closures). Employees can still submit, but the form warns them and the manager sees the blackout flag on the approval page.

Public holiday handling

Tick which states’ public holidays your platform respects. Leave requests that span a public holiday automatically deduct one less day.

Notifications

How and when employees, managers, and admins get told about leave events. Defaults are sensible. Common tweaks:

  • Turn off the “leave request submitted” admin email if your org has a single approver
  • Turn on “leave coming up next week” reminder for managers if they miss things

Save

Each section saves independently. Changes apply to future requests. Anything already submitted keeps the rules it was submitted under.
