Run the Culture Builder wizard

Most organisations know they “should have cultural values” but struggle to articulate them well. The Culture Builder is a multi-step wizard that walks you through defining a small set of clear values, with AI assistance to help draft and refine.

It’s worth blocking out 30-60 minutes to do this properly. The output shows up across the platform (dashboard, performance reviews, shoutouts) and the better articulated they are, the more useful they become.

Open the Culture Builder

  1. From the HR Hub, click Culture Builder (or navigate to /hr-hub/culture-builder.html).

The wizard opens with a step rail on the left and the active step’s panel on the right.

The wizard steps

The wizard walks through steps roughly in this order:

  1. About your organisation. Brief facts: what you do, your size, your industry, your stage. The AI uses this for context.
  2. Existing values (if any). If you’ve got values already, paste them in. The wizard refines them rather than starting blank.
  3. What’s your culture actually like? Open prompts for what you value, what behaviours you want to encourage, what you want to discourage.
  4. Brainstorm draft values. The AI proposes a set of candidate values based on your input. You pick which to keep and which to discard.
  5. Refine each value. For each kept value, fill in the label, tag line, meaning, behaviours that demonstrate it (“must have”), and behaviours that contradict it (“cannot have”).
  6. Pick icons and colours. Assign each value a visual identity that’ll be used on the platform.
  7. Review and save. A final preview of how the values will look on employee dashboards.

The exact step list may evolve as the wizard improves; the rail on the left shows the current set.

Working through it

  • You can move between steps at any time using the step rail.
  • Each step saves automatically as you go.
  • Skip optional steps if they don’t apply, but be careful not to skip the AI-input steps — the more context the AI has, the better the output.
  • The wizard is collaborative — multiple admins can work on the same values record over time. You don’t have to finish in one sitting.

What you get at the end

A set of cultural values (max 10), each with:

  • A label
  • A tag line (shown on dashboard cards)
  • A longer “meaning” description
  • “Must have” and “cannot have” behaviours
  • An icon and a colour
  • A consistent display order

These are the same values you’d see in Settings > Cultural Values (see Build your organisation’s cultural values). The wizard is a guided way to populate them; the Settings page is a bare editor for direct edits afterwards.

Reviewing values later

Cultural values aren’t set-and-forget. Most organisations should review their values at least every couple of years (or when something changes substantially: leadership change, restructure, growth past a key size). Re-run the Culture Builder when the time comes — it’ll start from your current values and refine.

Privacy

The data you provide to the Culture Builder (your culture descriptions, values inputs) goes to Claude as part of the AI generation. Don’t include sensitive employee data, customer data, or anything you wouldn’t want the AI to see. Cultural values are organisational, not individual.
